Dear Supervisor Dufty and Mr. Mitchell:
I am writing to you as a concerned citizen of San
Francisco and as (a client of the Patrol Special Police
in XX neighborhood, if you are a client) to request your
support and assurance that a Christmas eve assault by a
bar patrol resisting arrest by San Francisco Patrol
Special Police Officer Jane Warner will be handled as an
assault on a police officer, and not diminished to a
standard assault and battery charge.
Officer
Warner is and for the past 18 years has been, an
invaluable resource in the safety and security area for
the Castro neighborhood. She has a close rapport with
business and community members the Patrol Special Police
protect and serve, as well as with the community at
large. Officer Warner has supported many community
safety initiatives including the Castro Patrol as well
as supported SFPD officers as they conducted their
duties in the Castro.
We feel it is a vital
public safety priority that willful and unlawful attacks
on uniformed police officers, whether the SFPD or Patrol
Special Police officers, be viewed and fully prosecuted
as 'assaults on a police officer' and handled with the
seriousness such an action deserves.
